Scientists turned spinach leaves into heart tissue

Scientists at Massachusetts’s Worcester Polytechnic Institute turned spinach leaves into heat tissue. How? They first took out cells from the leaf, making it translucent and leaving behind the structure and matrix. Then, they filled out the gaps with human heart tissues.

Cultivating human tissue on a plant scaffold is not easy but potentially very rewarding. If scientists would be able to develop these tissues enough to create artificial hearts, they will be able to save nearly 2 dozen people a day who are on the waitlist for new heart.
