NY Regents Chemistry Exam June 2023, Questions 64-65

During a laboratory activity, 15.0 mL of hydrochloric acid, HCl(aq), is exactly neutralized by 18.2 mL of 0.11 M sodium hydroxide, NaOH(aq). During the laboratory activity, appropriate safety equipment is used and safety procedures are followed.

64 Write the name of the laboratory procedure used in this activity.

Solution: A procedure that is used when a neutralization reaction (reaction between an acid and a base) occurs is called TITRATION.

65 Show a numerical setup for calculating the molarity of the HCl(aq) solution.

Solution: The formula that we can use for a titration problem is

MaVa= MbVb where Ma is molality of acid, Va is volume of acid, Mb is molarity of base and Vb is volume of base.

Ma(15.0ml)=0.11M(18.2ml)
