Practice AP Chemistry questions.

AP Chemistry is a college level chemistry exam covering a variety of chemistry topics.

Lets practice with some questions to get a taste of the exam.

1. In solid methane, the forces between neighboring molecules are best characterized as

a. ionic

b. covalent

c. hydrogen bonds

d. ion-dipole forces

e. London dispersion forces

Methane, CH4 is a non polar molecule. The forces between neighboring molecules are called intermolecular forces. A nonpolar molecule has only London dispersion forces and therefore choice e is the correct answer.

2. How many carbon atoms are contained in 2.8g of C2H4?

In order to calculate atoms, we must first get moles using the molar mass, and then convert them to atoms of carbon using Avogadro's number.

2.8g C2H4 * ( 1mol C2H4/28.05 g) * ( 2 moles C/ 1mol C2H4)* ( 6.02*10^23 atoms/ 1 mol)

3. Which of the following is the conjugate acid of NH2-?

All AP Chemistry students need to remember that conjugate acid and base defer in only one Hydrogen. Therefore, an acid will have one more hydrogen than the base. Thus, conjugate acid of NH2- is NH3.

In 2019, AP Chemistry test is give on May 9th. We want to wish our chemistry students the best of luck.
