How to form a good relationship with your professor

chemistry tutor brooklyn

Many students go to colleges with huge classes of 100-600 students. In this environment, teaching might feel not as personal. However, a good relationship with your professor can be achieved and should be very helpful in gaining the most out of the class.

These tips will help you avoid feeling like your class you are in a stadium instead of class.

1. Go to the professor's office hours. Office hours will give you a change to get to know the professor better and learn how to best prepare for exams. Office hours are also extremely helpful in helping to answer any of the questions a student might have, or any topics he/she finds confusing. Transformation tutoring also suggests going to the TA office hours for the same reasons as mentioned above. This is extra help that the student can get free of charge.

2. If you have any questions, dont be afraid to raise your hand. Raising a hand and asking a question in a 500 students lecture hall is very scary. Many students choose not to be vocal or raise their hands. However, it is important to participate in class. If you have a question, chances are that many more of your classmates have the same question as well. Dont be afraid to speak up. There is no such thing as a stupid question. Questions are the best way for students to learn and master the material.

3. If office hours are unavailable, you can communicate with your professor and TA via emails. Make sure your emails are very polite and concise.

4. Be polite and respectful during all of your communication. Show your interest in the subject and your motivation to work hard to achieve a good grade.

At Transformation Tutoring we believe that communication is one of the most important skills a student can possess. We believe in the value of speaking up, and seeking help whenever feeling overhwled or confused in the class.
