NYU Post baccalaureate Prehealth program is a program for student who have earned their undergraduate degrees and are now looking to enter the medical field and have to take pre health courses. Students in this programs are looking to enter medicine or dentistry fields among many others.
Here is the list of the courses students in the postbac programs will take: general chemistry I and lab, general chemistry II and lab, principles of biology I, principles of biology II and lab, organic chemistry I and lab, organic chemistry II and lab as well as one of the following: biochemistry I, protein biochemistry, general physics I, general physics II, Calculus I, Writing the Essay, English elective, 1-2 Social Behavioral Courses.
Upon successfully completing their coursework, students will have to take the MCAT exam if they wish to apply to the Medical School or DAT exam for the Dental Schol. NYU will also provide qualified students with a committee letter which a letter of evaluation highlighting you as an applicant. It ties together academic achievements, healthcare volunteer and work experience.
To be eligible for the committee letter the student must meet the following requirements:
1.The student must have completed more than half of his/her prehealth science courses at NYU within the past ten (10) years while enrolled as a degree-seeking undergraduate or as a certficate recipient in our Postbaccalaureate Prehealth Studies Program.
2. The student must be applying to an application service or school that is compatible with the committee process .
3. The student must have adhered to the office deadlines for the cycle.
Another advantage of NYU Post baccalaureate Prehealth program is the availability of the linkage program that directly links students to the NYU School of Medicine as well as NYU School of Dentistry. However, getting into these programs is incredibly difficult. The GPA requirements for postbac NYU School of Medicine linkage is 3.8, and combined undergraduate and postbac GPA of 3.5 as well as overall MCAT score of 520 (98th percentile), where no section score lower than 129.
