A homogeneous mixture was prepared by mixing 0.15g A, 112.3g B and the 24.55g C. The volume is found to be 85.80 cm3. What is the density of the mixture to correct number of significant digits?

A. 1.5967 g/cm3

B. 1.59674 g/cm3

C. 1.6 g/cm3 D. 1.60 g/cm3 E. 1.597 g/cm3

Solution: Density = mass/volume

Since there are multiple substances being mixed, we can find the total mass by summing them up.

Mass = 0.15g + 112.3g + 24.55g C = 137g

Now, we can divide mass by the volume given.

Density = 137g/85.80 cm3 = 1.5967 g/cm3

To figure out the correct number of significant figures, we look at the given and find the number with LEAST significant figures. 0.15g has 2 significant figures while the rest of numbers have 4. Therefore, out answer should have 2 significant figures. Choice C is correct
