A student wants to make 100 mL of 0.30 M HCl. How many milliliters of 6.0 M HCl is needed to make this solution?

Solution: Here we are presented with a dilution problem. We go from a higher molarity and make a lower molarity solution.

The equation we use is M1V1 = M2V2

(0.30 M)(100ml) = (6.0M)V2

V2 = 5.0 ml
