Given a balanced equation representing a reaction: 2CO(g) + O2(g) → 2CO2(g) + energy

Regents Chemistry Exam June 2024 Question 35

35 Given a balanced equation representing a reaction:

2CO(g) + O2(g) → 2CO2(g) + energy

Which mass of O2(g) reacts completely with 5.6 grams of CO(g) to produce 8.8 grams of CO2(g)?

(1) 1.6 g (3) 3.2 g

(2) 2.8 g (4) 14.4 g

Solution:

According to the conversation of mass, the mass of products has to be equal to the mass of reactants for a chemical reaction. Mass of CO + mass of O2 = mass of CO2. 5.6g+ mass of O2 = 8.8 grams. Mass of O2 is 3.2g. Choice 3 is the correct answer.
