August 2018 NY Regents Chemistry Exam

45 In a laboratory activity, the density of a sample of vanadium is determined to be 6.9 g/cm3 at room temperature. What is the percent error for the determined value? (1) 0.15%

(2) 0.87%

(3) 13%

(4) 15%

Solution: Table T on the Reference Table has an equation for calculating % error which is % error =(measured value – accepted value)/accepted value × 100

Table S provides the accepted values for density of each element. All we need to do is find vanadium's density in Table S and plug it in along with the density given in the question (measured value).

Answer: 4
