Regents Chemistry Exam June 2025 Question 38

38 In a sealed, rigid cylinder with a movable piston, a sample of H2 gas occupies 30.0 L at 50.0 kPa and 200. K. What is the pressure of the gas if the volume is changed to 60.0 L and the gas is heated to 300. K?

(1) 16.7 kPa (2) 37.5 kPa

(3) 66.7 kPa (4) 150. kPa

Solution:

Table T on the Reference Table has all of the equations needed for Regents chemistry including Combined Gas Law. Combined Gas Law is P1V1/T1= P2V2/T2, where P is pressure, V is volume and T is temperature. Let's plug in the values and solve for the unknown (50.0kPa)(30.0L)/200K = P2(60.0L)/300K P2=37.5kPa, choice 2 is the correct anwer.
