Regents Chemistry Exam June 2025 Question 34

34  What is the number of moles of calcium oxide in a 238-gram sample of CaO? (gram-formula mass of CaO = 56.1 g/mol)

(1) 0.236 mol (2) 4.24 mol

(3) 182 mol (4) 294 mol

Solution:

Table T on the Reference Table lists all the equations for the Regents Chemistry exam including the one on calculating moles. Number of moles = given mass/ gram-formula mass. The given mass is 238 grams and the gram formula mass is 56.1g/mol. Plugging these numbers into the equation, we get number of moles = 238g/56.1g/mol. number of moles =4.24 moles. Choice 2 is the correct answer.
