(3) a specific amount of energy is emitted

(4) a specific amount of energy is absorbed


Solution:

When an electron travels from a higher energy to a lower energy state a specific amount of energy is emitted. Choice 3 is the correct answer.

PS: When an atom loses an electron, it becomes a positive ion and when an atom gains an electron, it becomes a negative ion.
