(2) 2-8-18-6-1 (4) 2-8-18-7


Solution:

Let's take a look at the Periodic Table on the Reference Table . The electron configuration of bromine is 2-8-18-7. This represents a ground state of bromine. If an atom gets excited, one of its electrons goes to a higher state. In choice 2 which is 2-8-18-6-1, we see that electron jumped from the fourth energy level to the fifth energy level. Choice 2 is the correct answer.

Choices 1,3 have an incorrect number of electrons and choice 4 represents bromine in ground state, not excited state.
