Regents Chemistry Exam January 2025 Question 44

44 Which equation represents an oxidation half-reaction?

which equation represents an oxidation half-reaction?
which equation represents an oxidation half-reaction?

Solution:

Oxidation is loss of electrons. This means electrons should be on the right side as a product, eliminating choices 2 and 3. The charge on both sides of an equation should be equal. In choice 4, the left side has a charge of zero, while the right side has a charge of +2-2(2 electrons)= 0. Choice 4 is the correct answer choice.
