Which half-reaction equation represents the oxidation of lithium?

NY Regents Chemistry Exam August 2023 Question 46

46 Which half-reaction equation represents the oxidation of lithium?

Which half-reaction equation represents the oxidation of lithium?
Which half-reaction equation represents the oxidation of lithium?

Solution: OIL RIG. (oxidation is loss of electrons and reduction is gain of electrons). Here, we are asked about oxidation. Losing electrons means we will see electrons on the product side, eliminating choices 1 and 2. The change on both sides of the arrow must be equal for the half reaction to be balanced. In choice 4 the charge on the left side is zero and the charge on the right side is zero as well. Choice 4
